So I’m starting to think I want to try Vista. I’m getting really curious about it, and I don’t have enough operating systems to play with, right? Plus, I think it’s only $15 to buy Vista through campus, so why not?

So if I’m going to install Vista, the question is: Where? I definitely don’t want to install over XP- it would have to be in addition to, not instead of. (You can have XP and Vista on 2 different partitions, right?) I could put together my old computer (which would involve stealing the memory back from my current Windows XP computer) and do a fresh install, or I could try a dual boot on my existing Ubuntu Machine, XP machine, or laptop. My laptop would be easiest- I’ve already partitioned it for Ubuntu, I could just wipe that half. The advantage of the laptop is that it is a Tablet PC- so I can take advantage of Vista’s snazzy touch screen features.

Two problems, though- I dislike the idea of getting rid of Ubuntu on my laptop (*sniff*) and I think the laptop only has 512 megs of memory- the minimum for Vista. I’ve been able to run Compiz effects just fine on the laptop, though, so maybe it’s OK. If I do wipe Ubuntu off, I’ll probably try and get linux running under VMWare or something for demonstration purposes at least.

I think I’ll go pick up Vista today and decide what to do with it later.
